Nearshore Fish Habitat Data Tool

PMEP is developing an online data tool to allow easy access, querying, mapping, and analysis of its compiled fish habitat data layers. These data layers, currently available for download on our website, include West Coast USA Nearshore Zones, West Coast USA Nearshore CMECS Substrate Habitat, and West Coast USA Nearshore CMECS Biotic Habitat. The data tool under development will be available through ArcGIS Online and through our website. PMEP is also partnering with the National Estuarine Research Reserve Coastal Training Program to provide hands-on training on this data tool. PMEP will also be developing How-To videos for the data tool. The data tool will be available by the end of 2023. This project is funded by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.

PEER (Promoting Effective Estuary Restoration) Project

PMEP is embarking on a three year project designed to bring together estuary restoration practitioners along the U.S. West Coast to build a community of practice and increase the effectiveness of estuary restoration. PMEP will host three annual symposiums focused on design considerations, monitoring, and documenting restoration. The project includes development of online resources for use by restoration practitioners, including updated data on estuaries and restored tidal areas along the U.S. West Coast. The  first estuary symposium is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Register here! The project is funded by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.

Tidal Swamp Restoration Report

In collaboration with the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, PMEP is supporting the publication of a report focused on methods and current status of tidal swamp restoration along the U.S. West Coast. Compiling information gathered from restoration practitioners, the report provides a baseline of information of tidal swamp restoration projects and provides an overview of methods and considerations for practitioners. The report is designed as a resource for practitioners and includes resources for further reading. The information gathered from practitioners will be updated periodically to track the progress of tidal swamp restoration projects over time.
