PMEP is supporting the Greater Farallones Association and the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians to engage fishing community members in bull kelp habitat restoration along the Sonoma Coast at Sea Ranch, known to the Tribe as Tule qh’a le yo, in Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. The project will build on ongoing kelp restoration efforts by strengthening coordination among nonprofit and Tribal scientists, commercial divers, and local fishing communities to advance urchin removal, kelp restoration, and monitoring activities. This collaborative work will support recovery of kelp forest habitat, improve local restoration capacity, and help inform effective, Tribal-led approaches to kelp recovery in northern California.
